HISTORY
The Old Post Office Lisbane is situated on the road between Comber and Downpatrick and the building dates back to the 1840s. It is a grade II listed building and had lain derelict for 14 years before being acquired in 2004 by husband and wife team Alison and Trevor Smylie. As Alison and Trevor have recently retired, new owner Stuart and his team have carried on with their extensive menu while adding several new variants and exciting options.
The pictures on this page show some of the restoration work they undertook using local bog oak where possible and of course restoring the original thatched roof.
Many local people helped in the restoration process which has created a delightful and charming eatery which now includes a Kitchen Shop offering great food to take away and a Gift Shop showing some great locally produced arts and crafts.
